Summer is almost here. Summer is filled with longer sun-filled days, traveling to see family or going away on vacation, and before you know it summer is over.
What if we approached summer differently this year?
What if we decided we’d slow down and enjoy the longer days and family we’ve traveled to see?
What if our vacation was restful and rejuvenating, instead of coming back feeling like you need another week of vacation to recuperate?
It’s time we take back our summers, slow down, and enjoy being with our friends and family.
Here are some ways to reclaim your summer:
I know the temptation to worship the sun god at our beautiful beaches is very real especially during the summer. Longs days at work and the tranquility beckons us to roaring waters of the beach. Don’t let the temptation to go to the beach stop you from worshipping the God who made the beauty of the scenery and the warmth of the sun. Join us at the 9 am gathering and you’ll still have time to make it to the beach in time to find a good spot.
How we use the extra hours of sunlight and free time allotted during the summer can either refill us or fool us into thinking we’re resting and rejuvenating ourselves. Make sure to use time every day to connect with God in prayer and in reading the Bible. Use our Bible Reading Plan (homeportcc.org/bible-reading-plan) or go to Bible.com (https://www.bible.com/reading-plans) and find a plan on any number of topics to help you through what you are going through right now or reconnect with God. Find some time away from the noise and in the stillness and quietness listen for the voice of the Lord. The summer is also a good time to get out and try new things. Walk on the beach in the evening, find a community class on a topic you’ve always been interested in, have friends over for dinner. Do something other than binge watch more Netflix as tempting as it might be.
When you do get away on vacation make sure you are detaching from work, email, social media, and even your text messages. Use the time away to GET AWAY. Take your Bible and a couple of great books. Find a place with terrible cell phone reception and no wifi.
If you’re away from Saint Augustine on vacation and you do have wifi or a good data plan, you can join us online at 11 am. We live stream our full gathering on Facebook live. Just head over to Facebook.come/HomeportCC and scroll down till you find the video with the red LIVE button in the top left corner. We’d love for you to join us from wherever you are.
Lastly, use our online giving to set up recurring giving. I recently heard someone say, “we automate the the important” and when we set up recurring giving we make sure that our first fruits are given to the Lord just as Proverbs 3:9-10, “Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the firstfruits of all your produce”. When you make sure your giving doesn’t stop even when you are away, your investment in the Kingdom continues. You giving helps us continue advancing the Kingdom of God. You can go to homeportcc.org/give to give online or simply text Homeport to 73256 to get started.
Thank you for your love and support for Homeport. I want you to have the best summer possible. Even as Christians, it can be easy to slip into routines that move us away from our commitments during the summer. Christians should enjoy vacations, just remember as H.B. Charles Jr. reminds us, “There is no such thing as a vacation, leave-of-absence, or sabbatical from your responsibilities as a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Can’t wait to see you Sunday,
